Kiddies stuff

First of all thank you to Granny, Grandpa, Auntie Sharon and Uncle David for sending the parcel of goodies for the kids that we received yesterday.   We will send a little video later on Whatsapp to Sharon of the kids in their nice clothes, personally thanking you all!  In the meantime, here's a couple of photos that I took with the cellphone this week.

Faye is going on a school trip the week after next to Kingswood, West Runton.   This is an awesome place, overlooking the North Norfolk coast.  Check out the website link.
She's going to have an absolute blast.

Anyway today is L'il Dragons and then Brownies later on ... so a busy afternoon (for me) :)

POSTSCRIPT
We didn't go to L'il Dragons cos Ewan reckoned he had a sore tummy (since lunchtime) but he seems okay now ... anyhoo ... these little cellphone videos for Granny, Grandpa and Sharon (who's already seen them on Whatsapp!)

I just finished a poncho that I made for Faye, it's the same pattern that I used for a shawl I made for myself - I basically made two shawls and joined them together leaving a hole for her head.  It came out quite nice - here she is modelling it over the new clothes from SA:

Get Well Soon ,,,

Jim had the op on his face yesterday - the Whatsapp photos were a bit gross :) but pleased to hear that he is home now and starting to recuperate.  It will be a few days until the drain is taken from his face (next Tuesday) so for now he looks like one of the Borg.    Well done to Leigh and Andrew for getting everything organised and being with him.   Looking forward to skyping now that you have interwebs down there in Durban.

A Little Video of Baby Faye

A little video of baby Faye learning to rinse her mouth after brushing her teeth.

I have sent it in to You've been Framed, hopefully it will get selected for telly and then I can make GBP 250.00 .

(ha ha, not in hi def, this was before the days of HD).

Tyrell's Wood

The kids go back to school tomorrrow and I think they were both suffering from a bit of cabin fever this morning, so we took a short drive out to Tyrells Wood - always a good place to get rid of some pent up energy.  We ended up scaling embankments and ditches to get into the wood on the other side, which started out promising - there was a little pond at the place where we went in - but it soon turned out to be the same as Tyrell's but with no paths.  We did see bluebells today - only a few at the place where we made our escape from the main wood.   I saw one squirrel hot foot it up a tree but not much else in the way of wild life today. It was very quiet in the wood too, so surprising that we didn't see any more animals.

Wandering around piles of bricks at Bury St. Edmunds

We took a drive out to Bury St. Edmunds after breakfast to the Abbey.

History 101
In 1214, the Barons of England met in the Abbey Church and swore to force King John to accept the Charter of Liberties, which was the foundation stone of the Magna Carta.  The Magna Carta was the single most important document ever signed in the UK, it devolved power from the Kings to the people.  Initially it was really only the noblemen and Barons who benefited from the Charter but eventually it affected every citizen on English soil.  It was basically the start of democracy in England, which spread to many other areas of the world.

The Norman Gateway

The Abbey site at Bury St Edmunds was the burial place of the Anglo-Saxon king, St. Edmund, who was killed by the Danes in 869.  So this area has been a religious place since the 9th Century.  The original Abbey was first built in the 10th century.

The plaque in the picture above talks about how the gate was rebuilt in 1347

Chasing ducks - there are loads of ducks and geese wandering all over the place.

It was a pity that the weather was somewhat rainy today - it was still possible to walk around but it would have made such prettier pictures if the sun had been shining!

He moved SO fast! I think Hayzel took a better picture than this, so I'll try to steal it and post it up here soon.

How the Abbey would have looked back in the day.

I'm standing where the Charter of Liberties was signed back in 1214 - eerie place.

Wandering up the street in Bury, after we'd had a nice filling lunch.

Yay! the Easter Bunny's been ... peep, peep, neehow ....

Ewan surreptitiously crept downstairs just after the rain had stopped, round about 6am this morning, on a 'sword quest' (so he originally said) to see if he could find his sword that he thought he'd lost in the garden yesterday.  He went back upstairs to mum to tell her that the Easter Bunny had been and that there were loads of big eggs.

Steve, do you remember that Easter at Da Gama Dam with Hayzel?  She has never forgotten that, hey.  With you saying that you kept seeing the Bunny streaking through the trees on his way to deliver eggs. (Hence the peep, peep, neehow reference above).

Sugar rush? Me? ...
They've got enough eggs for a couple of weeks now hey.  Kevin took a little movie, so that'll be up here soon.  Happy Easter Egg hunting to all and sundry :)

We're off to Bury St. Edmunds today - hope the weather stays nice.
