It all started out quite fine this morning - even though you can clearly see that she is a little nervous. The day went very well for her and she had a great time at her new school today, by all accounts.
She has made some friends already - Megan, Amelia and Kirsty, who was apparently very kind to her and showed her how to do stuff most of the time in their lessons. They had an easy, slow start to the term as teacher, Mrs. Best said ... a Maths test to start. Oh dear! Faye said that she battled with the Maths and doesn't think she got many of the questions right - multiplication ... we know she will pick it up, so not too worried at the moment.
They also did Art and Faye jabbered on all the way home about how she wrote her name in heiroglyphics (the language of the Ejipshuns) and that they are going to write on real Egjipshun paper soon (papyrus). She also started learning Spanish today! One boy asked her in 'Show and Tell' if it was better in South Africa than England and she said that it was basically the same.
Mrs. Best said that Faye was confident and got on well with the other children in the class, so far so good. We asked Faye later on this evening to sing Nkosi Sikele, just in case they ask her at school to sing her South African national anthem - well she gets the first part (the Nkosi Sikele bit) off pat, even the Afrikaans piece is reasonable but she cracked us up when she did the English verse ... "And to live and strike for freedom in South Africa, our land." Oh God, that brought tears to our eyes. Out of the mouths of babes hey?
On the way home, scuse the shot - taken with the cell phone, don't want to delete it, even though it's a lot out of focus, she looks so happy! |
It’s about a ten minute walk (fifteen to twenty if you are
walking with Ewan) to the school. We
passed the Nursery School on the way
this afternoon and he wanted to go straight away.
At home time, the kids just line up at Fayes’ classroom
door, which faces the entrance way to the school. Parents stand around in pods waiting to collect
kiddies and the noise level rises considerably just before the kids come out of
the classroom, there is a lot more animated chatting going on than we used to experience at Holy Rosary!
Quite a few parents walk to the school to collect their kiddies.
Scuse quality - Faye is on the right at the door - taken with cellphone, they are super-sensitive to people taking photos of children at schools |
Faye has already been given a flier for an overnight excursion that the school is going to in March - to some awesome stately home/hall near the Norfolk coast - I'll post more about that soon when I have more information.
In the meantime, I'll leave you with this little pearl -
Faye reckons that the kids in her class understand Afrikaans anyway, they knew what she meant when she said 'Ja' ... :)
The Kids are looking really happy guys, Miss u guys alot, Good Luck today Ewan at your first Day of School, I hope all is good and the Job hunt is going well for everyone.... I will start posting some stuff soon for u guys.
